By Nature Dog Food Reviews

By Nature dog food is a subsidiary of Kent Pet Group, the corporation that also makes the World’s Best Cat Litter. While their headquarters is in Iowa, the products in the By Nature line are manufactured at plants in Illinois, Indiana, and Washington in the United States. While their line is small, they have some interesting food choices.

By Nature has three main goals in creating their food. First, they want to strengthen the bonds between owners and pets by protecting your pet through food. Next, they hope to support a healthy, active lifestyle for all pets. Lastly, they want to continue to advance dietary research to help your pet eat the best food out there.

By Nature Dog Food Reviews

In this By Nature dog food review, I’m going to give the brand a 4-star rating. Why? Because I believe that their food does a good job of providing nutrition through high-quality ingredients. Additionally, they are working hard to continue to improve their products through constant dietary research which is key for the future health of your pet and the success of their brand.

Pros

Balanced Blends

The recipes in the By Nature lines are all balanced to be the perfect blend of ingredients to give your pet the right amount of nutrition. The foods use By Nature’s exclusive Super Fusion Advanced Nutritional Blend, which is meant to combine high-quality proteins, antioxidant-rich superfoods, and prebiotic fibers so that your pet’s entire system will work together flawlessly.

This Super Fusion difference is further outlined in a PSA video from By Nature below:

High-quality Ingredients

The proteins in the By Nature formulas all come from high-quality sources. The proteins all come from deboned fish and animal proteins. This way, there is more protein and less bone going into the “real meat” part of the ingredients, unlike some other, lower-quality brands. It’s great to see a brand take the initiative to remove some of the unnecessary bones and add in other healthy organs, like chicken livers.

Cons

Very Difficult To Find

The biggest problem with By Nature food is that it’s incredibly difficult to locate. Not only is it not at many local retailers, but it's also not available on many popular dog food websites. I have never had so much trouble finding out where to purchase a pet food product before. This makes it a very impractical option for many pet owners and leads me to the next con.

Not Many Customer Reviews

There simply aren’t many By Nature dog food reviews out there. While I analyze every food I present myself because I want to be sure about the information I am sharing, I like to check in with pet owners who have been feeding their dog’s the brand for a long time. For By Nature, however, there are not many real customer reviews to be found, which makes it difficult to fully analyze the product.

By Nature Dog Food Reviews of Ingredients

Many By Nature dog food reviews talk about the Active Defense line of food, so I’d like to analyze the ingredients in the By Nature Balanced Diet Turkey, Green Peas & Herring Recipe formula.

  • Crude Protein (min) 26%
  • Crude Fat (min) 16%
  • Crude Fiber (max) 3.5%
  • Moisture (max) 10%

The protein in this food comes from chicken, turkey, and herring. The first two ingredients are deboned turkey and chicken meal, with other protein ingredients including turkey meal, chicken liver, and other ingredients.

This formula is meant to be balanced between proteins, fats, and carbohydrates. The fat comes from named chicken fat, and other fatty acids come from included oils, such as salmon oil.

Unfortunately, some of the protein in this food probably comes from plant-based proteins as well. Alfalfa meal is one of the top ingredients, and this is more common to horse feed than dog food. Still, this food has a great amount of protein and fat. It is an above-average dog food.

I’d also like to note that I love the inclusion of ground oats in this food. Ground oats are a great ingredient. They’re rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber, giving a great boost to your dog’s food.

Overall, this is an above-average. It’s worth buying and giving a try if you can find it at a store near you!

By Nature Dog Food Recall History

There is no record of a By Nature dog food recall. This is a great sign of good manufacturing processes, and it reassures me that there will not be a By Nature dog food recall in the future, either.

I also found no history of any voluntary recalls.

Final Thoughts

I admit that I almost lowered my rating for this product simply because it is difficult to find, but I didn’t think that was fair to do to a high-quality product. If you want to try this food, their website does provide a way to look up if any local stores carry the food. Hopefully, you’ll be able to locate it at a store near you!
